We recently held our Annual "Ladies Member Guest Day" and it was a huge success, but this is not intended to blow our own horn. Although our team did a great job preparing for the event, the day was a success because of the sprout and enthusiasm of all the ladies that participated.
Each year we have a theme for our LMG and this year it was "Hollywood", now that could mean a number of things...Movies, Oscars, Celebrities etc. The girls jumped all over the theme and created a true FUN day of golf.
If we tried to do a theme for Men's Member Guest they guys would hang me by the flag pole and hit me with a seven iron until I changed my mind. Even if the theme was "be a man for the day" they would find a way to resist and suggest we change it back to the way it was. Now this is not intended to take a shot at the men, they like their day the way that it is. Golf, Beer, Meat & Prizes. We are simple creatures...we know what we like and when we want it and we want the same thing every year. Don't make us think... or surprise us with a themes just pair us with the two guys we play with every week, show me the first tee, serve me a cold beer and leave me alone. Through in a little betting, a hole in one prize something with my name on it and we are good to go.
The ladies are the complete opposite....well they do like to enjoy a few cocktails, but they embrace the event and the theme as much as possible and squeeze every last ounce of FUN from it. We actually had a foursome that played all 18 holes in 30 degree weather dressed as Dorothy (complete with ruby shoes) the Tin man, the Scarecrow and the Lion. They were like trained method actors, keeping in character the entire day and there was a rumour that they hit every shot next to a cardboard cut out of the yellow brick road!! It didn't matter that the Tin mans lid kept falling off after every shot or the ruby shoes provided nothing in the way of breath-ability....they had FUN.
They were so excited for the day that the entire field registered and checked in BEFOREregistration even opened!! Arriving early wasn't an option it was a necessity so that they could retrofit their golf carts oscar statues, sunglasses, cameras, a directors chair and even a hobbit. Matching outfits, red carpets, strobe lights, palm trees and bling were all part of the day and the day was all about FUN!
I didn't need to call the RCGA for a "ruling" their were no accusations of sandbagging or cheating, the paramutal betting or calcutta didn't become the focus of the event. The focus was getting together with you friends, enjoying a great day on the golf course and having tons of so FUN.
Way to go ladies......you should be proud!
