I took a little bit of grief about my blog that mentioned some of the things that "I hate about Golf" and people suddenly made me out to be this bitter old man that was miserable all the time and didn't enjoy the game.
I decided to go back and read that blog and well..you now what....I did sound a little cranky. So I wanted to clear a few things up. I love Golf...I love everything about Golf! I love the Golf Business and I truly love coming to work each and every day to be around more people that love Golf. Its just sometimes, things about this game drive me absolutely crazy!! So for my "Image Makeover" I decided to create a list of the things I love about Golf. These are in no particular order.
1. I love being the first group out in the morning, playing with good friends and enjoying every minute as the course "awakens"....the dew slowly dries, the greens firm up, the sun gets warmer every minute and you complete 18 holes in just over three hours. Love it!!!!
2. I love the feeling of a well hit shot...you know the one...it feels like a freaking marshmallow coming of the club and it is completely effortless. Your arms, hands, shoulders and body actually work together and the ball tracks towards the target! It is that shot we spend hours on the range searching for just so we can get that feeling. If it wasn't for this shot....nobody would play the game. It is this shot, and the fact that it seems SO easy that makes us nuts about this game.
3. I love when I give someone a really simple tip and their game improves dramatically. It is amazing how telling someone to put a little more weight on the correct side, or moving their ball position back or forward or getting them to swing through the ball can make a huge difference.
4. I loved when I could play with my grandfather and we could compete to try and beat each others brains out. No other sport can a thirty five year old compete against a Seventy five year old and both have a great time. Losing a dollar and fifty cents to my Pops used to be the greatest thing!
5. I love playing a great course for the first time! Two years ago we managed to finagle our way onto the TPC Stadium course (we only found confirmed the booking about twenty four hours in advance) but we were all like little kids on Christmas Eve. Two guys in their forties and two guys in their thirties and it was all we could talk about...loved it!
6. I love having a really good hot-dog at the turn. To this day the best hot-dog I have had is at Pinehurst....I don't know if it was the setting or the mixture of dijon and regular mustard but I remember that dog like it was yesterday and now all hot-dogs are rated against that one! mmm
7. I love watching four juniors walking down the fairway carrying their clubs.
8. I love when you are playing a tight match and you can laugh out loud at a bad shot without anyone wanting to kill you or you wanting to kill yourself.
9. I love the old "on purpose three putt". You know...when you are playing a match against a guy and he is in his pocket, so you three putt on purpose so you don't waste a shot and at the same time drive him crazy because he thinks he could have won the hole!
10. I love the fact that I can look forward to introducing my son to the things that I love about the game and hoping that he finds a few of this own as well.
