This week is one of best! The U.S. By God Open is underway...and there is what seems like 900 hours of coverage (which I like and hope the Masters would adopt the same approach) they are playing at Pebble Beach and the course is going to be tougher than nails. I like that!!
For a few weeks out of the year I like to watch the best players in the world put to the ultimate test. The course is playing hard and fast, the greens are very small and ridiculously fast and they get really bumpy and crusty late in the day....add in a little PRIME TIME coverage and you have yourself a great event.
I was watching a little bit of the coverage yesterday and the best in the world were saying that the hardest shot on the course was a wedge into the par five fourteenth hole!!!! A wedge.....can you imagine being Tiger Woods and being challenged by a ninety yard shot? That is great stuff!
Sure, maybe it is a little cruel to sit and wait for some guy to blow up and lose the tournament, but people watch the Daytona 500 just waiting for a crash and this is really no different. Mickelson shot four over yesterday and said he didn't feel that bad because "nobody is going to be under par this week".
I can't wait to sit down on Sunday evening (Father's Day") watching the final and telling my son that one day I will caddy for him in the U.S. Open. I realize he is only two and a half and I will probably end up watching Bob the Builder and playing in the sandbox.....thank God for PVR's!
Tune in the golf this week....sit back...enjoy .....and watch the fun, it is going to be GREAT!
