I am thrilled to announce that beginning on April 1st (this is not an April Fools Joke) that we will be experimenting with having two holes on every green on our Orchard 9.
One of the holes will be the traditional 4.25 inch diameter hole that we have all grown to love and hate and the other will be a hole that is 8 inches in Diameter and If I was a math wiz I would tell you exactly how many extra square centimetres it is, but lets just say it is at least double! Yes double!
The feedback we have been getting thus far has been mixed, some people love the idea and some people think we are crazy!! I am amazed at how some people actually get angry and say how stupid it is! Why? Is golf too easy for some people, do they not feel challenged enough? Hey if Jack Nicklaus can get behind this I think its safe to say every other golfer in history should support this.
The basic idea is that it will make the game a little more fun (especially for new players and juniors) it will speed up play (no more watchign some guy four jiggle from three feet while you are waiting on the tee) and most importantly it will make golf easier! More birdies, more chip-ins more one puts.....whats the problem!
I get all the hardcore traditionalists like playing the game the way that Old Tom did, but come on...we need grow the game. Think about how crazy it is when you explain to some new player the game of golf. "Ok pal ...take this ball, yeah this little white one and start right here. Then I want you to head 420 yards up that hill and around that big pond and I want you to put it into this little four and a quarter inch hole!" "OK pal...have fun and oh yeah....don't take too long because the guys behind you paid full pop!" Its crazy!
If you want to see how much fun it is come out one day between April 1st and April 30th and give it a try!
